Are you among the 80% of Americans presumed to have one or multiple food allergies?
Find Out Now!The one question we frequently get here at Nutrispot is:
What are the most common food allergies?
So, we thought we would oblige. However, the "most common" should be taken with a grain of salt.
As food allergies become an epidemic in the United States, more and more foods are being identified as the culprits in food allergies. In fact, foods that were once viewed as universally tolerated are now being re-examined for their allergy producing potential. So, make sure to listen to your body first before you reference a list, and make sure that you identify and track any and all foods that are causing you problems.
The following are the "most common" allergy producing foods:
- Milk
- Cheese
- Eggs
- Corn
- Wheat
- Shellfish
- Nuts
- Berries, especially Strawberries
- Tomatoes
But, like we said above, there is no finite list of foods that people are allergic to. For example, one of our Nutrispot staff made a list of all the foods she is allergic to: Potatoes, Wheat (but only whole wheat), Soy, Avocados, Pineapple, Ice Cream and Heavy Cream.
In her case, she is mildly allergic to most and only severely allergic to two: Ice cream and avocados. Unfortunately, determining these allergies was the result of quite a few hospital trips and bad health events.
She is one of the reasons we decided to include a food allergy tracker in Nutrispot. We felt that if we could help just a few people identify food allergies without expensive and traumatic trips to the emergency room, then we had justified the cost of developing an allergy-tracking tool to integrate into the Nutrispot system.
