Most of us know that a diet that consists mainly of junk foods and processed foods can make us fat. But few of us think beyond the superficial affects and consider the damage that is being done to our organs and metabolic processes.

You Are What You Eat

Good nutrition is both essential and critical for short term and long term good health. Poor nutrition has a cumulative effect on the body, making it more susceptible to disease and less efficient at regulating its own processes.

Poor nutrition causes the body to function in a constant state of "coping". Poor nutrition causes the body to get caught up in the never-ending processing of toxins and other harmful elements found non-nutritious foods. This wears out the body, leaving you with little extra energy to fuel your busy life.

Continuous poor nutrition, like eating lots of processed and "junk" food, denies your body the nutrients it needs to perform its most basic functions. Poor nutrition loads the body with useless calories and stored energy, making the body bigger and unhealthier than it needs to be. The body then has to work extra hard not only to process the "junk" out, but just to move around!

Nutrient Rich Foods: The right way to "diet"

On the other hand, nutritient-focused diets provide the body not only with basic support but with all of the key elements to keep the body strong, healthy, active and able to fight disease. What is a nutrient-focused diet? Well, put simple, its making every calorie count. Its getting the maximum nutrition for the least amount of energy (calories). Its making the choice to eat fruit instead of potato chips. A nutrient-focused diet is one that evaluates the nutrient (e.g. vitamins) potential of every food in comparison to its energy potential (total calories). The higher the nutrient count and lower the energy level, the better the food.

Most of us know that a diet that consists mainly of junk foods and processed foods can make us fat. But few of us think beyond the superficial affects and consider the damage that is being done to our organs and metabolic processes.

Over-consumption of bad foods (e.g. fast food, refined sugar, lard) puts your entire health at risk. Poor nutrition is a major contributor to the following serious diseases:

  • Heart Disease
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Fatigue

It is up to you as the "eater" to educate yourself in what foods contribute to disease. Ignoring this issue is risky. You are jeopardizing your health and, possibly, the health of your family. Take the time to learn about what diseases are associated with what types of eating lifestyles by going to our Nutrition & Diseases page to find out more.

The good news is:

Immediately adopting a good nutrition lifestyle can reverse some of the effects caused by a history of poor diet.

Of course it takes time, but if you are consistent and committed to integrating healthy foods into your daily eating and removing the most toxic foods from your system, then you will reap the benefits.

In the short-term, you will notice changes in your physical appearance. You skin will be brighter, your weight will start to drop and you will have more energy. On the inside, you will be lessening the load of detoxification that you require of your body, and, in return, your body will start using its new found nutrients to build up its immune system and provide you with sustained energy.

Do you know what your nutrition levels are? You should. Every day, you should be looking at how your eating habits are depriving you of essential nutrients that your body needs to fight disease and provide you with the energy you need to live a healthy, active lifestyle.
